JULY is an amazing month in many ways. School’s out (enough said). The Fourth of July and all the glorious Independence Day celebrations start up. Summer’s in full bloom. Baseball season is at its peak – Homerun Derby…oh yeah! But, it’s also a month of mixed emotions just the same. Mosquito bites. The Summer heat and humidity. Kids saying they’re bored. Parents constantly looking at their calendars to when school starts again. Vacations to the beach or theme parks have come and gone. More mosquito bites.
Don’t despair or cue the sad violin music just yet. Let’s find a way to kick those Summer blues in the you-know-where and spice up the next few months with some BACKYARD GAMES! Even a front yard will do. As long as you have some outdoor space to stretch, spin, and sprint you’ve got room to set up some classic and not so classic games. Once you’ve got the space, all it takes is a little creativity and energy to get going.
1. To start off, you may need to do some digging around in the basement, garage, or under the kitchen sink for some props. Hey, that could be your first game! Have the kids go on a scavenger hunt around the house for items like markers, string, empty bottles, chalk, balloons, etc.
2. Next, gather all the finds together and let those creative juices flow to see what games can be made.
